All Learning at CIS Global Online School is grounded to clearly developed standards of learning.
Each Unit of Discovery utilizes internationally recognized curriculum standards to align learning within and across levels of mastery. By approaching learning through a lens of mastery, students are able to work at their own pace with the support of expert teachers and peers to challenge themselves to continue to grow.

Pods

Our Learning Pods are facilitated by two main teachers for 5th and 6th Grades and 7th and 8th Grades respectively. Each teacher supports the conceptual understandings and competencies in the Humanities (English Language and Expression) or STEM Learning (Maths and Sciences). All of our teachers support student well-being and character development.

Flexible
Learning

CIS Global Online students also enjoy the flexibility of pursuing their own passions in the Arts (Dance, Drama, Music, and Visual Arts) and Physical Education (Well-Being, Conditioning and the pursuit of a variety of Sports) through either integrating their work with current mentors in any discipline, or through utilizing CIS Global Online Specialists who create challenging opportunities to explore one's passions.

Languages

CIS Global Online students also have the opportunity to learn new languages including French, Mandarin, Spanish or any number of other languages they may wish to pursue. Flexibility grounded in known international curricula is at the heart of learning at CIS Global Online School.

Assessment

CIS Global Online understands the importance of assessments to appreciate the growth and development for all our students. We approach assessment through the simple phrase: Assessment for learning, assessment of learning, and assessment as learning.

Assessment for
learning

Describes how students and teachers understand where each person is with their learning. Often called formative assessments, assessments for learning allows for course corrections to keep students in the zone where they are and stretch them just enough to learn and understand next steps.

Assessment
of learning

Describes what is traditionally called summative assessments. Tests, papers, presentations, the kinds of things that encapsulate the sum of learning within a unit of discovery. CIS Global Online School includes many types of summative assessments, including the viva voce process, used by people to defend their doctoral dissertations, and verbally share the learning they have internalized over time.

Assessment
as learning

Asks learners to reflect on their own learning and gain a deeper understanding of how they learn. Self reflections, peer feedback, and a rich array of investigations where learning continues during the assessment process supports students to develop their metacognitive awareness, a fancy way of saying, learning how one learns.
All of these types of assessments are directly linked to the conceptual understandings, competencies, and character developments designed within the units of discovery.
